mastering the craft - scene study
“In the safest of spaces, you will explore your craft.”-Dr Lyndsey J. Wong (Scrubs, Animal Control, Puppylove)
“Carly's openness and dedication has always made me feel confident, allowing me to take risks in my work as an actor. I admire her process immensely and recommend working with her if you are so lucky.” -Hannah Krostewitz (Mayfair Witches, Searching for a Serial Killer: The Regina Smith Story)
“Carly is a strong leader in BC's acting community. Her casting director connections and industry knowledge make Born To Act Studios a top choice for actors looking to deepen their knowledge of the craft and the business in Kelowna and beyond. Also, she is a delight to work with!” -Alison Wandzura (Ghosts, Allegiance, the Healing Powers of Dude, Van Helsing)
Description
Six weeks. One scene. One partner. This is where the real foundation gets built — not through memorizing lines, but through learning to live inside a scene. You'll dig into the given circumstances the way Stanislavski taught, sharpen your imagination and script analysis the way Adler demanded, learn to actually listen and respond in the moment the way Meisner's technique trains you to, and connect the work to something personal the way Strasberg believed every performance requires. Different roads, same destination: acting that feels alive instead of rehearsed.
You’ll get:
Script and text analysis that uncovers what's actually happening beneath the words, not just what's said
Objective and obstacle work — what your character wants, and what's in the way
Training to react truthfully and spontaneously to your scene partner, instead of performing a rehearsal
Techniques for building a personal, emotional connection to material that isn't your own life
Exercises to strengthen instinct, presence, and real listening
Tools to get out of your head and stay in the moment, take after take
A grounded understanding of what makes a performance feel true instead of technically correct
Class size limited to 10 actors!
